Sexual Abuse Intervention Program
The SAIP Counsellor is responsible for providing assessments, treatment plans, treatment interventions, and discharge planning to children and families where sexual abuse/assault is the presenting problem. Emphasis is on direct therapeutic service as well as supporting client intervention through family/agency/community network, consultations, administrative tasks and emergency support services.

1. Master’s degree in social work, counselling or a related field. 2. Specialized training and experience in non-verbal expressive therapies (ie. art, play) and evidenced based therapies. 3. Two (2) years recent related experience. 4. Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. 5. Membership in an accredited governing body (e.g. Registered Clinical Counsellor/Registered Social Worker).
Experience & Skills
1. Proven record of expertise in counselling children and/ or child sexual abuse victims. Expertise will include therapeutic skills in assessment, treatment planning, treatment implementation and evaluation with children and youth; family therapy skills and training specific to abusive family systems; play/expressive therapies. 2. Experience in group work with adults and/or children an asset. 3. Ability to work independently and as a member of a professional team. 4. Ability to provide public education regarding sexual abuse to community groups, families, and peers. 5. Awareness of signs and symptoms of vicarious traumatization and ability to implement self-care plan. 6. Awareness of ethical, legal and medical issues specifically relevant to intervention in cases of sexual abuse/assault. 7. Sensitivity to cultural diversity, disabilities and dual diagnoses.
Days and Hours of work
Regular Part-time 30 hrs/wk
Starting wage $26.92/hr
