Leadership 2020

Leadership 2020 builds leadership knowledge, skill, and capacity amongst emergent and legacy leaders in the social services sector. Through our flagship nine-month Leadership 2020 Program, the Leadership 2020 Mini Program, and special topic initiatives, we are building communities of practice for leadership co-learning and networking.

Leadership 2020 is not your traditional leadership development program! We have identified, through research and inquiry with cutting edge leaders around the world, some of the leadership attributes and skills that we think will be needed to meet current and future challenges and strengthen leadership in our sector. This research set a foundation for the Leadership 2020 program design which includes coaching skills, collaborative approaches for solving difficult problems, and life-work balance. Beyond this, participants will determine what they believe is being called for in their own leadership and we will help them find the resources and people that will aid them in developing these ideas, skills and practices. In this generative curriculum approach, participants are both co-learners in and co-creators.

Each cohort is made up of two groups that work, learn, and grow together. Emergent leaders are individuals who have a desire and intention to step into leadership roles within the community social services and non-profit sector within the next 5-10 years and are both keen to develop their leadership practice and also to support, encourage and mentor their fellow participants. Legacy leaders are individuals who have distinguished themselves as effective leaders and mentors within the sector, who are transitioning out of the paid workforce within the next 3-10 years, but who are both keen to continue to develop their leadership practice and also to support, encourage and mentor those who will succeed them.

Interested in leadership issues? Have some great leadership resources? Want to learn more but not yet ready to dive into the full 2020 program?

Selected Leadership 2020 resources are being made available to all Federation member agencies and can be shared freely with staff and volunteers. Select webinars and learning events may also be opened up to practitioners who are not in the 2020 program. Please help us make the 2020 initiative a great success not only for the participants but also for the broader Federation community by sharing your favourite resources, suggestions for speakers and presenters and burning questions.
