Leadership 2020

The Leadership 2020 program brings together emergent and legacy leaders from member agencies within the Federation of Community Social Services of BC to establish a community of practice (CoP) for leadership co-learning and networking.

The first Leadership 2020 cohort has been selected. Using a community of practice (CoP) approach, emerging leaders from throughout BC will be involved in cutting edge face-to-face and online learning from September 2011 to June 2012 that will build their leadership capacity and networks.

Some background information...This is not your traditional leadership development program! We have identified, through research and inquiry with cutting edge leaders around the world, some of the leadership attributes and skills that we think will be needed to meet current and future challenges and strengthen leadership in our sector. This research set a foundation for the 2020 program design and includes coaching skills, collaborative approaches for solving difficult problems, and life-work balance. Beyond this, participants will determine what they believe is being called for in leadership now and in the future and we will then bring the resources and people to the CoP to develop these ideas, skills and practices. In this generative curriculum approach, participants are both co-learners in and co-creators of the Leadership 2020 program.

Emergent leaders are individuals who have a desire and intention to step into leadership roles within the community social services and non-profit sector within the next 5-10 years and are both keen to develop their leadership practice and also to support, encourage and mentor their fellow participants. Applications for the program are currently being reviewed and notifications and further details will be sent to all applicants by August 29th, 2011.

Legacy leaders are individuals who have distinguished themselves as effective leaders and mentors within the sector, who are transitioning out of the paid workforce within the next 3-10 years, but who are both keen to continue to develop their leadership practice and also to support, encourage and mentor those who will succeed them.
