Sector Leadership

We are community service champions. We provide knowledge, tools and supports that enable our member agencies to do their best work and together we are building strong, vibrant communities full of healthy people and healthy families.

Leadership Capacity - For a number of years the Federation has been focused on human resources issues and best practices and spearheading research into sectoral recruitment and retention practices. We have also launched an innovative leadership development program called Leadership 2020 aimed at developing emergent and potential leaders in order to ensure a future of strong leadership and sustainable labour market growth and development within BC's community social service sector.

Demonstrating Leadership - The Federation is at the forefront of an effort to increase, spread and promote the value and necessity of social care and the work done by community social service agencies. We have a robust communications platform and produce timely toolkits for our membership enabling them to lead action around emerging issues and special events. The Federation also recently launched an exciting initiative in partnership with the United Community Services Co-op engaging, documenting and sharing the oral history of our sector and the Federation continues to support and incubate Board Voice as it gains strength and momentum.

Collaborative Leadership - We are constantly searching out for new partners and allies and exploring new ways to work together with those around us. Our Executive Director sits on the BC Advisory Council for Social Entrepreneurship, we support and help coordinate the Provincials Roundtable, and we recently signed a historic collaboration agreement with the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres aimed at increasing opportunities for cross-cultural understanding and improved access for off-reserve Aboriginal families needing community services and support.

Leadership Support & Development - We organize regional, provincial and special-topic forums, and establish advisory groups that build executive knowledge and skills, networks and collegial support. We also share up-to-date information on topics of interest and concern to member agencies. Our Youth In Care Bursary program supports young people to pursue careers in the helping professions.
